To you,
I miss getting letters in the mail. Remember the feeling you got when an envelope came in the mailbox with your name scratched on the top? When you opened it and saw a letter handwritten to you? It felt personal. It felt like someone had taken time out of their day just for you. Just to write this letter. That’s how I want you to feel when you come to From, her. I want you to feel like this is a letter addressed solely to you. I want you to feel the same warmth you feel inside that you get when you received a letter in the mail. Because that’s how I feel writing it for you.
I’m Marlena. Welcome! I like to make people feel like they matter which is partly why I created From, her. The other part is the fact that I love to write and I wanted a format to do just that. I studied journalism in college so I’d like to think I’m pretty good at it.
I’m from the lovely (and loud) city of New York. I’ve grown up here my whole life. I’ve always been surrounded by unique, diverse human beings and I like it that way.
My roots stem from my Taino (dad) and Incan (mom) ancestors, therefore I’m a full-bred Latina (who’s still working on her español so ten pacienca conmigo, por favor).
I really love my family. My dad and I talk on the phone every day, my sister is my best friend, and my mom is the Lorelai to my Rory.
I love music that makes me want to dance my way out of bed. I believe a really great song can change your day.
I’m very competitive. With so much of our history told by those who win, I want to be able to write my own winning history too.
I had the chance to live in Barcelona, Spain for 5 months during my senior year and I’ve caught the travel bug ever since. I tend to picture spending my retired years on a beach somewhere on the coast of Italy. Hey, a girl can dream, right?
I watch lots of TV, mostly because I hope to work in it. I’m pretty much down to binge watch anything as long as it doesn’t include, gore and horror (zombies don’t count!).
I have my good qualities and my bad, but doesn’t everyone? I like to believe people’s flaws are part of what makes them beautiful.
Ultimately, I want to live a life that I can look back on when I’m old and grey and just laugh at the crazy chances I took. Like that one time I ran after Rihanna in the middle of Greenwich Village when I was 12 years-old and almost lost my parents in the process. But that’s a story for another time! Trust me, I have plenty of them, and I cannot wait to share them with you.
Thank you so much for taking the time out of your own life to be here and read From, her. So here it goes! Again, welcome to From, her. Stay awhile
From,
Me 💌
